Performance & Body Art
Immersion (2022) is part of an iterative photographic series that explores the physical embodiment of spirituality through an imagined identity painted on the artist’s body. The playful use of the body as an extended surface of the painting transcends boundaries between life, art and self, suggesting the embodiment of spirituality as a wholistic experience. The use of eye symbolism on the body creates an imagined representation of spirituality as a mystical entity - making visible the invisible.
Immersion (society) (2022) is part of a photographic series that explores the physical embodiment of spirituality through an imagined identity, integrated in a social context. The artist performs mundane rituals such as crossing the street and waiting at the bus stop painted in vibrant colours, as an attempt to liberate the self and spirit from the structures and norms governing society.
Immersion (domestic) (2022) is part of a photographic series that explores the physical embodiment of spirituality through an imagined identity, integrated in a social context. The artist performs mundane rituals such as hanging laundry, watering plants and occupying mundane spaces such as the bathroom and back yard. Psychedelic blue eyes contrast with the red painted skin of the artist and represent her imagined spiritual persona she performs as an attempt to liberate herself from the repetitive and restrictive experience of mundane life.

Object (2020) explores and deconstructs the objectification and stereotyping of women’s bodies via a feminist yet personal lens. The artist materialises her own naked painted body as surface to paint provocative text such as ‘sexual object’, ‘male gaze’, ‘lady like’, inevitably making her own body a political object and mirror of the projected patriarchal views of women.
